How Environmental Grades of SPC Flooring Are Classified
In China, environmental grades of SPC flooring are classified into ENF, E0 and E1 based on formaldehyde emission. E1 is the mandatory minimum entry standard with a limit of ≤0.124mg/m³. E0 is a high-quality grade limited to ≤0.05mg/m³. ENF represents China’s top environmental grade with a limit ≤0.025mg/m³. SPC core is extruded integrally from stone powder and PVC at high temperature without formaldehyde adhesive, so premium products can easily reach ENF level.
The international market does not adopt ENF/E0/E1 classification. Independent indoor air quality certifications are widely accepted instead. FloorScore and GREENGUARD Gold are mainstream in North America. GREENGUARD Gold has stricter requirements and is specified for schools, hospitals and other sensitive areas. In Europe, French A+, CE and REACH certifications are common. A+ is the highest VOC grade for interior materials in France, while REACH restricts harmful substances such as phthalates.
When selecting SPC flooring, grade labels alone are not sufficient. Low-cost items marked with high grades may still exceed limits on heavy metals and phthalate plasticizers. For foreign trade orders, third-party test certificates for target regions should be verified. Test results of TVOC, heavy metals and phthalates also need checking to ensure environmental compliance.
